Greater Condemnation

Series: The Gospel Can't Be Contained

February 13, 2022
Frank Foreman

When we say someone is held to a higher standard it can mean something as simple as having a greater expectation of behavior or effort. But personally speaking, it could mean there is a greater accountability or responsibility because of a life we have chosen to live or a calling we have chosen to accept. ---------- This Sunday, Frank finishes up chapter 12 of the book of Mark in our current sermon series looking at that very question in regard to those in positions of leadership. This week's message has an application for any of you that are in positions of leadership inside or outside of the church, but also there is an application for us to be in prayer for those in positions of leadership, specifically within the church family, but also generally for anyone that God has allowed to serve as leaders in our jobs, schools, government, etc.

Episode Notes

Big Idea: Those who lead are held to a higher standard….

James 3:1, Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.

1.  One last plea to the religious leaders.

(Journal) Mark 12:35-37

Hebrews 1:1-3, Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the Heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high….

2.  One last warning about religious corruption.

(Journal) Mark 12:38-40

2nd Peter 2:1-3, But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

3.  One last example of religious abuse.

(Journal) Mark 12:41-44

Deuteronomy 27:19, Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

Next Step:  Those who lead are held to a higher standard….

Pray for your leaders.
