Father, Forgive Them

BIG IDEA

Forgiveness filled the heart of Jesus, not condemnation or revenge…  

And with His last breaths He sets an example for every Christian to follow.

1.  Unfathomable forgiveness offered for those not trying to understand it.

Ephesians 3:14-19, For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in Heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

2.  Unlimited forgiveness offered for those not even looking for it.

Mark 2:3-5, And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

3.  Unrestrained forgiveness for those far from ever deserving it.

Hosea 1:2, When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.”
