Matthew 22:37-40, And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” ---------- We begin a new sermon series for the month of September this Sunday. This series will focus on these important truths: That we have been chosen by a Great God with a Great Commandment to follow a Great Commission. We are called to this purpose is to accomplish his Great Plan to be His church. Through the teachings of Matthew 22:37-40 and Matthew 28:19-20, we see that plan revealed for us and through this sermon series, we will study those Scriptures to help us to recognize how we should function as Christians individually and as the church together in unity. ---------- This first week, our theme and message will be centered on worship, celebrating God’s presence in our lives and our church. We come together as a family each week to praise and glorify Him, but in truth, worship is not a weekly event, but a mindset that sees the opportunity to magnify God in all circumstances and through every thing that we might do.

Episode Notes

Matthew 22:37-40, And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

The purpose of the church is to glorify our Lord.

Romans 11:36, For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.

Glory: The most important, significant, prominent, priority in our lives... That is what we hold in the position of glory.

BIG IDEA: We glorify our Lord by celebrating God’s presence through worship.

Revelation 4:10-11, …the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who is seated on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, “Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.”

Hebrews 13:15-16, Through Him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge His name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

ADORATION: Declaring God.

ACTION: Doing Good.

1.  Celebrate God’s presence at church.

John 4:23-24, But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

  • Friendly greeting.  (1st Peter 5:14)
  • Scripture reading.  (1st Timothy 4:13)
  • Bible preaching.  (2nd Timothy 4:2)
  • Lord’s Supper.  (1st Corinthians 11:23-26)
  • Believer’s baptism.  (Matthew 28:19)
  • Prayerful intercession.  (1st Timothy 2:1)
  • Generous giving.  (2nd Corinthians 9:7)
  • Heartfelt singing.  (Ephesians 5:19)

2.  Celebrate God’s presence at home.

Colossians 3:16-17, Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:23, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord…

NEXT STEP: How can I be more active in my worship at church and home?
