Series: I AM
April 20, 2020
Frank Foreman
Frank Foreman starts up a new series of messages this week based on the seven affirmative statements Jesus makes about Himself in the Gospel of John. He begins each of these unique with the statement "I Am." Of course, this was not simply a general statement of His attributes. It tied directly to the personal name of God from the Old Testament (I Am that I Am). In each of these statements, He profoundly ties His characteristics to the Father and declares His divine nature.
Episode Notes
Pause: Why do you think Frank’s dad was so serious about not letting him go to bed hungry?
John 6:35
1. Jesus offers sustenance to the physically hungry.
Matthew 25:40, And the King will answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
2. Jesus promises satisfaction to the spiritually hungry..
Matthew 5:6, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
3. Jesus condemns superficiality in the hypocritically hungry.
Matthew 7:21-23, Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in one who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven. On that day many will say to Me, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and cast out demons in Your name, and do many mighty works in Your name?” And then will I declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.”
Pause: What do you come seeking?
BIG IDEA:
Jesus came to change your desires ... When you learn to desire Him above all else, you will be filled.
NEXT STEP:
- What are your top three “wants?”
- How does Jesus fit into these?
- What should you do if He doesn’t?
- How can you make sure your “want” for Him is greater than any other?
