A "Come to Jesus" Moment

Series: Seek & Save

So often in Scripture we see marked contrasts in the way people react compared to the manner in which we believe they should act. Part of our advantage is retrospect. We see the story later and are sometimes amazed at people's response. Apparently, so was Jesus. Such was the case when Jesus heals ten men whose bodies were riddled with leprosy. After coming to Jesus for mercy and healing, when the healing occurred sometimes later, only one of those men turned back to come to Jesus to express gratitude and joy at his healing. Perhaps the overwhelming joy and opportunity to reconnect with family and friends overcame the other nine. Whatever the case, it is a sobering reminder to us to remember not just to come to Jesus for grace and mercy and petition, but also to praise, glorify and express our gratitude for what we have and what we have been given.

Episode Notes

Luke 17:11-19, On the way to Jerusalem He was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as He entered a village, He was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When He saw them He said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus 'feet, giving Him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And He said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

We all need a “come to Jesus” moment:

1.  Come to Jesus to worship.

Matthew 14:33, And those in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

2.  Come to Jesus to give thanks.

1st Thessalonians 5:16-18, Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

3.  Come to Jesus to seek salvation.

Acts 4:12, And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

BIG IDEA:

Many are happy to accept the benefits of Jesus without acknowledging Him as Lord and Savior.

NEXT STEP:

Thank God for the blessings of this life…  But don’t miss the eternal blessings which He offers.
