A Chapter of Impact

Series: A New Chapter

As the church of Acts begins another new chapter, it is clear that it was not a place for the for casual faith. Most evident is the Impact that was seen in the lives of Christians like Tabitha, known more for the things she did our of kindness and generosity than things that she might have said or "achieved" in the church community.

Episode Notes

Acts 9:36-43, Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity.  In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay.”  So Peter rose and went with them.  And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room.

All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.

But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.”  And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.  And he gave her his hand and raised her up.  Then calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.  And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.

Like Tabitha, speak loud and clear through your actions … GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I

1.  Do some GOOD … and LOTS of it

James 2:14-17, What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?  Can that faith save him?  If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?  So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

2.  Leave a LEGACY … not just an INHERITANCE

Matthew 9:36-38, When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

3.  Make an IMPACT …  in life and DEATH

Galatians 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
