When you were lost in sin, having no hope of eternity with God or hope in this life, Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross freed you from both the penalty and power of sin. He declared you righteous, justifying you and removing all guilt from you. Christ set you apart, made you into a new person, put a new heart and his very own Spirit in you. You are raised to newness of life "in Christ", living in Him and He in you. As the apostle Paul wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit - what do you say to these things????
