Living on a Higher Level

Quote from Augustine used in this sermon: "I probed the hidden depths of my soul, and wrung its pitiful secrets from it, and when I mustered them all before the eyes of my heart, a great storm broke within me. I flung myself down beneath a fig tree and gave way to the tears which now streamed from my eyes. For I felt that I was still the captive of my sins, and in misery I kept crying. “How long shall I go on saying tomorrow, tomorrow? Why not now? Why not make an end of my ugly sins at this moment?” It was then he heard the sound of a child singing a song “take it and read, take it and read”. He could not remember ever hearing a song like that, even as a child. So he decided to open the scripture and read whatever he came across. The verse below from Romans 13 is what he read: Romans 13:13-14 - Let us walk [c]properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
