In our last sermon Staying Calm in Chaos, we studied John 18. In that chapter, Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus' disciples, betrays Jesus by turning him over to the Jewish priests. Then, after interrogating him, the priests send Jesus for judgment and execution by Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea at the time. Though Pilate found no fault in Jesus, he condemns him to death to appease the Jewish crowd. In John 19, the narrative continues as Roman soldiers humiliate, torture, and then crucify Jesus.
