David and His Songs: The Early Years
In storytelling discipleship, we often consider how the main character may have felt. This, for the most part, is conjecture as the Scripture doesn’t always tell us. The one exception is David. He is not only a shepherd, general, and leader, he is also a poet. Some of David’s poems are preserved for us in the book of Psalms. Some of these Psalms have a notation of when David wrote them. Most do not say exactly when they were written. We have the history of David’s life written in the books of Samuel, Kings, and 1 Chronicles. We have David’s response to life written in his Psalms. By combining the history of David with his Psalms, we can begin to get a fuller picture of how David was a man after God’s own heart. (1 Sam 13:14)
