Daniel: A Man of Character
The book of Daniel tells of a gifted young man who is taken into exile. Daniel, whose name means “God is my judge,” shows how believers are to live when they are a minority living amidst pagan influences. These stories demonstrate how to live a faithful life in exile. They model how we, as God’s people, should live as strangers and exiles in a world that is not our home. Daniel and his friends served their pagan masters loyally and still did not compromise their greater loyalty to God. The courage these Jews show is exceeded only by the rescue and wisdom God granted them. Thus, Daniel, a man of character, gives us a model of character that is needed in our chaotic 21st century lives.
