REBOOT YOUR FINANCES
Pastor Chuck Bernal - January 29, 2017
The Bible talks about money, possessions and giving 2,350 times. That’s a lot. It’s more than Jesus talked about love, and more than He talked about heaven and hell combined. It’s almost as if God knew we would need lots of direction and clarity on the whole money and stuff issue. Does He know us well, or what? So what’s in those 2,350 verses? The entire teaching of the Bible and money can be filtered down into eight words.

Some people store up treasures in their homes here on earth. This is a shortsighted practice — don’t undertake it. Moths and rust will eat up any treasure you may store here. Thieves may break into your homes and steal your precious trinkets. (Matthew 6:19 – Voice)
The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much that they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain. (1 Timothy 6:10 – CEV)
Don’t fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have. (Hebrews 13:5 – CEV)
I don’t understand why you spend your money for things that don’t nourish or work so hard for what leaves you empty. (Isaiah 55:2 – Voice)

You lazy people, you should watch what the ants do and learn from them. Ants have no ruler, no boss, and no leader. But in the summer, ants gather all of their food and save it. So when winter comes, there is plenty to eat. (Proverbs 6:6-8 – ETRV)
The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets. (Proverbs 21:20 – LB)
A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t and even brags about it! (Proverbs 13:16 – LB)

Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another . . . (Romans 13:8 – Amp)
The wealthy rule over the poor, and anyone who borrows is a slave to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7 – International Student Version)
It is better not to make a vow than make it and not fulfill it. (Ecclesiastes 5:4 – NABRE)
Godliness, along with contentment, does put us ahead but not in the ways some imagine. You see we came into this world with nothing, and nothing is going with us on the way out! So as long as we are clothed and fed, we should be happy. But those who chase riches are constantly falling into temptation and snares. They are regularly caught by their own stupid and harmful desires, dragged down and pulled under into ruin and destruction. For the love of money—and what it can buy—is the root of all sorts of evil. Some already have wandered away from the true faith because they craved what it had to offer; but when reaching for the prize, they found their hands and hearts pierced with many sorrows. Don’t let this happen to you—run away from these things! (1 Timothy 6:6-11 – Voice)
REBOOT PRINCIPLE If you can’t __________ for it, don’t __________ it! (Exception: Mortgage)

I am the Lord All-Powerful, and I challenge you to put me to the test. Bring the entire ten percent into the storehouse, so there will be food in my house. Then I will open the windows of heaven and flood you with blessing after blessing. (Malachi 3:10 – CEV)
Give freely and spontaneously. Don’t have a stingy heart. The way you handle matters like this triggers God, your God’s, blessing in everything you do, all your work and ventures. (Deuteronomy 15:10 – Msg)
Don’t hold back—give freely, and you’ll have plenty poured back into your lap—a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, brimming over. You’ll receive in the same measure you give. (Luke 6:36 – Voice)
