Salvation is not merely something Jesus accomplished it is who He is!

Paul and Barnabas are sent out by the church in concert with the Holy Spirit and use the power of the Spirit to spread the gospel and triumph over Elymas, the opponent of the gospel. The drama of this text reveals to us how we also, have and can use the Holy Spirit - knowing that Christ still reigns today, and works through the means of Grace.

When Jesus was facing death he took up the cup of salvation and gave thanks. Psalm 116 is a wonderful foreshadowing of both the agony of Gethsemane and the extreme love of Christ in the cross. Because of what Christ did for his people, we can pay our vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people with the sacrifice of thanksgiving on our lips. Don’t let this psalm be a hidden gem to you!

The challenge of this text is to be what we already are in Christ, knowing that God himself is with and for us should change our prayer life; understanding that God’s wrath cannot be on us at all anymore also changes our life not just our thinking; but also waking up to the righteousness we have in Christ means that we are not only freed from our sin, but have dominion over it. All this happens primarily in the means of Grace and it compels us to Go out from the unclean world as salves and to Go To the unclean world as servants.
