REAL TALK - 4
Grow Up
1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a
child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood
behind me. TNIV
Ephesians 4:11-16 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the
evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of
service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in
the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining
to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and
blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and
craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in
love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the
head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by
every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does
its work.

WHAT IT MEANS TO GROW UP:
1. Spiritual stability precedes marital unity.
Ephesians 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in
every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From
him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament,
grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
● A spiritually mature person is an emotionally stable person.
● You should not have to hide or apologize for your dating relationships.
2. Marriage is for grown-ups and grown-ups act grown up.
Ephesians 4:13-15 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of
the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the
fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by
the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the
cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
● Infants are incapable of marriage because they can’t give or serve.
● Infants lack muscle, coordination and experience.
● What we call cute in kids, we call disgusting in adults.
3. Maturity is not defined by age but by the acceptance of
responsibility.
Ephesians 4:15-16 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in
every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From
him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament,
grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
● We submit to the authority of Christ first.
● We are able to speak the truth in love.
● We naturally grow, build and work.
