Episode Notes
HUMILITY: FACE REALITY AND MATURE
Roald Amundsen reached both the North and the South Pole before anyone else. Also, he was the first one to traverse the Northwest Passage. As other explorers seemed to be more interested in reaching a destination, finding fame, and getting glory Amundsen chose to embrace the journey.
People of humility become leaders because of their achievements. They reached their achievements because they understood that they were not the point.
“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2:5-11 NASB1995
We should choose to be who we are created to be, regardless of how others see us. We should embrace the journey of maturation. We do this by God forging an arsenal on the inside of us as we admit our shortcomings and confess the areas where we missed the mark. When we do, we understand how to be exhorted as we exalt Jesus Christ above ourselves.
FORGING
“Did not regard equality with God as a thing to be grasped…”
Jesus is the eternal Son of God who didn’t need to go around telling everybody about His greatness. When you embrace the mentality of not exulting yourself, you are able to have an arsenal of weapons assembled inside of you. Every time you choose humility great weapons are forged on the inside of you. When you have great weapons on the inside of you, there’s less of a chance that you will have to use them. You don’t just look strong you are strong.
ADMITTING
“Empted Himself…taking on the form of a bondservant.”
Jesus was and is the ultimate example to all of us. He showed that the greatest power comes in emptying ourselves. This paved the way for us to live with humility. When you admit that you haven’t arrived, then you can commit to the journey and conquer along the way. So, keep looking at where you’re going. But, live where you are.
CONFESSING
“Humbled Himself”
Jesus never sinned and He had no need to confess anything. However, He still humbled himself and died a servant’s death. He did this so that we could confess our sins. He knew we would come up short and He chose to make a way for us. When you confess all of the areas where you missed it, then Jesus can clean you up and calm you down. There are times when I’m all cranked up and crashing everything around me. When this happens, I need to throw up my hands and confess that I’ve come up short. Then, Christ can come in and clean up my mess. He can clean me up. He can calm me down. if you wanna be a great leader, you’re going to have to embrace humility you’ll need to embrace being a great follower of Jesus Christ.
EXHORTING
“God highly exalted Him.”
The scripture does not say, “He will highly exalt you.” true humility understands how to have faith in Jesus and focus on others.
“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” - Philippians 2:3-4 NASB1995
So, be a humble person by embracing the journey that you were on for Jesus Christ. Continue to see yourself as someone who’s going to give God all of the glory and help everyone that you can. Be a servant leader because there is no other kind.
