Homily - When Our Conscience Becomes Our Guide (TGH2)

You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it; that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Keep them and do them; for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’

DEAR FRIENDS:

TODAY, THE MORAL PRACTICE of the sons of the Holy Roman Church, and that of our modern neo-pagan neighbors is virtually indistinguishable!

  • The percentage of unmarried Roman Catholics who commit the sin of fornication is the same as that of our unbelieving friends;
  • The proportion of Self-Identifying Roman Catholic married couples who use artificial contraception is nearly identical to the proportion of couples within the general populations of the communities in which they reside;
  • Roman Catholic young people, and adults alike who go to Mass regularly secure the services of abortion clinicians with the same frequency as do our Liberal Protestant counterparts;
  • The sons and daughters of the Holy Catholic Church believe that homosexuality and homosexual acts are moral goods just as frequently as do their non-Christian friends;
  • When asked if they believe that  people of the same sex should have the legal right to establish so-called marriages with one another, Roman Catholics are more likely to say “Yes” than are their atheist confreres!
  • Only 21% of Roman Catholics look to the Church founded by Jesus Christ for guidance on difficult moral questions!

And, although Jesus teaches that from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness...And that all these evil things come from within, and they defile a man...

  • A full 73% of Roman Catholics look to their consciences as their primary guide in determining what is good, right and true!

GIVEN THESE FACTS, and given that each of these beliefs and moral practices go directly against both the teaching of Sacred Scripture and the immutable teaching of the Holy Tradition entrusted by our Lord Jesus Christ to the Holy Apostles...

  • Can modern Roman Catholics not be justly accused of  setting aside the commandment of God, in order to hold fast to the traditions of men?

IT IS NO WONDER THEN that Modern Man is no longer impressed by the wisdom of the sons of the Catholic Church nor by the prelates who govern them!

THIS IS WHY neither the simple not the intelligent of our day express wonder about us:

FOR SINCE WE NO LONGER KEEP the commandments of God nor do them; our wisdom and our understanding is thought to be nothing but common in the sight of our neighbors...

THIS IS WHY no one today says of the Holy Roman Church;

“Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people!...what great nation is there, that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law”

DEAREST FRIENDS:

As you come to receive in your person the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...

  • The one only Savior of the world; and
  • The source of all true wisdom;

I ask that you beg the Lord to lavish upon us again the grace of repentance, and the courage to reject the tradition of Men...

So that we might return — in the obedience of faith — to the only true wisdom...

  • The teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ; and
  • The unerring and immutable doctrine of his One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church!

And so that God might again be glorified among the nations!

Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom: Pray for us!

Lord Jesus Christ, Fount of All Wisdom: Have mercy on us!
