Homily - Stop With The Negotiating! (Bede)

My dearest brethren,

From time to time, God the Father will grant us the consolation of filled stomachs and the satisfaction of other earthly appetites!

As the Lord Jesus said:

"Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.” ~ John 6:26

Even so, God the Father desires that we seek much higher things from him!

Again, as Jesus said:

“Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal." ~ John 6:27

You see, dear friends,

God the Father wills that we would desire and do the chief work that He has set before us — and to do this —without any thought of these consolidations!

Then they said to him, "What must we do, to be doing the works of God?"

Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent." ~ John 6:28-29

Dearest brethren,

The sons of God who seek this work and accomplish it will be those — and only those —who are truly satisfied!

• So, let us stop negotiating with our Heavenly Father...
• Instead, let us believe in the one he sent...

• Let us exert all our energies in the effort to know, to love and to serve God in this life...
• And, thus be counted among those who enjoy the Blessed Trinity forever in the next!

• Let us eat the Bread that has come down from heaven...
• Then, and only truly then, Will we be satisfied!

Will we be satisfied!
