Four lies that a nation gladly believes in the process of turning light into darkness and darkness into light
The consequences of our rebellion can be managed because we can handle whatever happens as a result of our rebellion.
Jeremiah 2:17. “You have brought this upon yourself,” God says, “by forsaking the Lord your God, and now what do you gain by going to Egypt?
if we follow our rebellious desires, we achieve freedom.
Jeremiah 2:31. “And you, oh generation, behold the Word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness to Israel, or a land of thick darkness? Why then do my people say, ‘We are free; we won’t come unto you anymore’?”
3 New paths are better than the ancient paths.
Jeremia 6 16 Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand by the roads and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.’ But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ God says, “I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Pay attention to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not pay attention.’ Therefore hear, O nations, and know, O congregations, what will happen to them. Hear, O earth; behold, I am bringing disaster upon this people.”
II. America at the crossroads,
First of all, I think of 1973 when the Supreme Court said that abortion could be performed for any reason or no reason at all.
it was concluded in our public schools that there could be no reference to a creator, that science had to be taught as it is and has been in all atheistic countries where there can be no appeal to God
The destruction of marriage is well on its way
The great sin of intolerance.
God’s presence can leave and we can go on worshiping.
Jeremiah 7:3: “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. Do not trust in these deceptive words.
III. The most distinctive indication of the people of God is that His presence should be among us
God is saying, “What do I need to say to you so that you’ll come back to Me?”
God wants our hearts but that God sees a nation, and Jeremiah certainly saw his nation in his day, and God sees America today.
