We must not love the ways and practices and patterns of the world that are set up in so many ways against the Word of God. The church should look different I John 2: 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. “If you love this world, you will perish with this world.” John 16-17 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. A past decision. III. True foundations for assurance of eternal life You must repent and believe Trusting in Jesus alone as the Son of God and the Savior from your sin. I John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 1:6-7: “If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” Good works do not save us from our sin. Ephesians 2:8 “By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works.” Obey Jesus alone as the Lord of your life. Showing the love of God to others 1 John 2:6-7 Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going. 1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. God is your life.
