The Law Mediator LISTEN ON MIXLR @  https://gbcsl.mixlr.com   WATCH US ON YOU TUBE LIVE @  http://www.youtube.com/gracechurch-slus/live  THE 10 COMMANDMENTS  FOCUS ON THE LOVE OF GOD  You shall have no other gods before me, You shall make no idols, You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain, and Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. FOCUS ON OUR LOVE FOR OTHERS  Honor your father and mother, You shall not commit murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false testimony, and You shall not covet. Deuteronomy 30:15–20 See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” Five contributions that the Law makes. The Law discloses God’s character.  The Law clarifies the standard The Law revealed our sinfulness. The Law provides for atonement.  The Law guides us in righteousness. Matthew 5:17–20  “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Episode Notes

JESUS FULFILLS THE LAW
Jesus fully discloses God’s character.

No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.”
Colossians 1:15, “He is the image of the invisible God;”
Hebrews 1:3 “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.”

2. Jesus fully clarifies the standard.
Matthew 5:20 “For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven
Matthew 5:22 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself
John 13:34–35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

3. Jesus fully reveals our sinfulness
Matthew 7:17–18, “So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit
Matthew 23:25,26 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.”
4. Jesus fully provides atonement.
2 Corinthians 5:21, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

5. Jesus fully guides us in righteousness
Galatians 5:22–23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;” and then he adds, “against such things there is no law.
Ezekiel 36:26-27 “And I will give you a new heart (God speaking), and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.”
