Go, make it as secure as you can.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard. “Pilate, Jesus predicted that He would rise again. To make sure that the disciples don’t steal the body and pretend that He fulfilled His word, make sure that the tomb is sealed.”

Episode Notes

  1. Make it as secure as you can.”

1. Keeping God in the Tomb

Matthew 28:2-5, “An angel descended from heaven and came and rolled the stone away and sat on it. His appearance was like lightening and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of Him the guards trembled and became like dead men.”

But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he[a] lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you. Matthew 28: 5-7

4. The Empty Tomb

Mathew 28:11-15 11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

  1. The Disciples stole the Body.

  2. His enemies stole the Body

  1. Jesus Appears to the Disciples

John 20:19-23 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews,[c] Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” . 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

  1. Jesus Appears to Thomas

26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

  1. Jesus Appeared to others

I Cor. 15:6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.

II. Why Keep him in the Tomb

  1. We prefer a dead Christ to a living Christ, because if He is dead you don’t have to deal with Him. You can ignore Him and try to live without Him.

  2. Because of pride we think that we can stand before God on our own and we don’t need Jesus, because we are so healthy and so well.

  3. Anger, Resentment, Prejudice and hatred try to keep him in the tomb.

  4.  Sometimes religion keeps Jesus in the tomb.
