Episode Notes

I. Escaping the Trap—Revenge
Exercise- askeo. “to take pains, endeavor, exercise by training or discipline.”

A. Maturing Through Hardships
 Recovery is your choice.
“We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:21-22.
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. I Peter 4:12-13

B. Reconciliation
You have heard that it was said to those of old, “You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment” But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, “Raca!” shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, “You fool!” shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:21-24
The word raca means “empty-headed,” or fool. It was a term of reproach
1. Asking forgiveness of one who is offended
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. Romans 14:19
2. Approaching someone who has offended you
Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. Matthew 18:15
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. II Corinthians 5:18-20

APPROACHING OUYT OF LOVE.
Go to him and show him his sin, not to condemn him but to remove anything that lies between the two of you and thus be reconciled and restored.
But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that “by the mouth of two witnesses every word may be established.” And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector. Matthew 18:16-17
ii. Conclusion
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.  Romans 12:18
It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured.
The love of God is the key to freedom from the baited trap of offense.
