Because of the Word’s magnitude. Because of the Word’s authority. Because of the Word’s relevance. Because of the Word’s purpose. Because of the Word’s effect. I. Because of the Word’s magnitude. II. Because of the Word’s authority. 1 There are a lot of folks who think when it comes to preaching that the Word is the diving board 2 Second, many people use the text, the Word of God, as the pool furniture. 3 The Word as the pool itself. The role of the Word in the Old Testament and New Testament worship and the role of the Word today. You had fresh revelation that came from God Explanation and persuasion Why would we need to dive into the Word? Apart from the Word the preacher is helpless. Apart from the Word, the church is powerless. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching” (Acts 2:42). Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles” (Acts 2:43) III. Because of the Word’s relevance. The Word speaks to contemporary needs. The Word speaks about eternal promises. 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.” 14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words IV. Because of the Word’s purpose. To show us the glory of Christ, To transform us into the image of Christ. Three characteristics of Christ are emphasized here. Christ is a man accredited by God. He was a Savior provided by God. God purposed for His son to die to save us from our sins. 22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 3. Episode Notes
Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved’ (Acts 2:14—21).
