Eternal Life and Everlasting Love 1 John 1:1–4 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life – the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us – that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” Two Prayers . . . I want you to know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.” John 20:31 “These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” You can be deceived about eternal life. You can be sure about eternal life. I want you to experience God’s everlasting love. 1 John 4:8 “God is love.” You have been created to enjoy God’s love for you. You have been created to express God’s love for others. II. Two Truths… 1 John 1:1 – 4 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life – the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us – that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.” Jesus is eternal life. John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” John 17:3 “This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” Jesus is the revelation of God. See who Jesus is. See what Jesus has done. Jesus offers everlasting love. Jesus has made the way for everlasting fellowship with God. 1 John 3:16 “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us.” Jesus has made the way for everlasting fellowship with others. Jesus has made the way for everlasting joy.
