Elect Exiles LISTEN ON MIXLR @ https://gbcsl.mixlr.com WATCH US ON YOUTUBE LIVE @ http://www.youtube.com/gracechurch-slus/live 1 Peter 1:1-3. 1 Peter 1:1-3. “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead 1 Peter 1:1–3 teaches us we must understand who we are before God in order to understand how to live in this world. 1 The team you are on changes everything 2 To those who are elect exiles 1.1 Peter 1:1–3 teaches as part of the Elect Exiles, you are a stranger in a foreign land You are strangers in a foreign land. Hebrews 11:13–16: These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city. 2.1 Peter 1:1–3 teaches us as part of the Elect Exiles, you are eternally loved by God the Father. A We’re not just exiles—we’re elect exiles. B Our performance has never been worthy of being chosen by the holy God of the universe. C God chose—elected—us according to His foreknowledge Ephesians 1:3–6 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace. 3. As part of the Elect Exiles, you are set apart by God the Spirit. A God says you are Elect Exiles “in the sanctification of the Spirit..” (1 Peter 1:2). B “sanctification” means “set apart for a purpose C We are destined by the supernatural power of God’s Holy Spirit in us to become more and more and more like Jesus in each of our lives. 4. As part of the Elect Exiles, you are united with God the Son. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (Galatians 5:22-24) A life united with Jesus, walking with Jesus, is good for us and good for others. 1 Peter 1: 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 5. 1 Peter 1:1–3 leads us to pray We’re Elect Exiles, united by hope. 1 Peter 1:1-3 can lead to prayers of praise, gratitude, and hope.
