CAN I BELIEVE IN GOD AND SCIENCE?

Some see the relationship between science and the Bible as competitive instead of cooperative.  

The conflict between science and faith comes from either misunderstanding science or misinterpreting the Bible.  

Rev 22:12-13 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son[a] from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 12:2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Science seeks the truth about our natural world.

Scripture reveals the truth about our supernatural God.

You don’t have to know every answer to every question to trust in Jesus. It will always take faith.

SCIENCE AND SCRIPTURE

1. Look at the beginning of everything.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

2. Look at the design of the universe.

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:2

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. Psalm 19:1-2 NLT

3. Look at the resurrection of Jesus.

And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. 1

Corinthians 15:14 NLT

The 6 Minimal Facts

1. Jesus was a real person, and He died by Roman crucifixion.

2. Jesus’ followers experienced what they believed to be actual appearances of a resurrected Jesus.

3. Because of those experiences, these followers were willing to die for their faith in Jesus’ resurrection.

4. The Christian church started right after Jesus was killed, right where Jesus was killed, in the city of Jerusalem.

5. James, the brother of Jesus, was not a Christian until after he believed he saw the resurrected Christ.

6. Paul, who wrote the majority of the New Testament, went from killing Christians to starting churches because he had an experience with who he believed was the risen Christ.

Concluding Thoughts
