The Turning Point The Lord presents the idea that there must be a certain amount of hunger for these spiritual matters in the soul of a man That spiritual hunger moves a man in to action.  Mark 10:17-22  17 And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. II. Ways that we can build up the spiritual mind.  Prayer—Implore the Holy Ghost to give divine light to our mind.   Discernment—Examine the things that we are faced with and seek after a deeper spiritual knowledge supplied by God so that we can judge between good and bad.   Decisions—Clear and correct choices are needed and the Word of God provides much guidance in seeking out the right way to live and walk.   III. Spiritual hunger and thirst is crucial to us for varied reasons: To prevent a carelessness and negligence in our walk and to bolster a sense of watchfulness, diligence, and attentiveness about our spiritual man. To remind us that our enemy is always ready to attack us. To make holiness, righteousness, and purity something that appeals to us even more than the treasures of this world.  To ensure that we are not proud, but rather humble in what He accomplishes by His grace in our life. To make sure that we are going to uphold the honor of God, the matter of love for Him and His salvation to us, and to keep the faith to the very end of our life.   To give wisdom from the victories and the defeats that come as we experience the hope of salvation.   To give a saint an opportunity through the faithful fight to gain a measure of eternal reward and honor.   To glorify God and show His power over the enemy.   IV. Blessed Are the Hungry “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. ( Isaiah 55:1-2)  V. How Can I Tell If I Am Hungering and Thirsting After Righteousness? A habit of having the same mind as God in all areas of life. It affects our worldview. A blessing of being under the commandments of God that preserve us from the curses and consequences of sin.   A promise of becoming like the Lord in thought and action preserving the Kingdom on this earth. A development of the fruit of the Spirit. A blessing of having the ability to have both self-control and self-denial which keeps us from being pulled by every whim of the flesh and the world.  A fellowship in a church that is marked by brotherly kindness and love. A spirit of mercy and goodness that will be expressed toward others.   A purity of heart that revels in the clean mind.   A man who understands the necessity of the fear of the Lord.  A man who is spiritually minded which means that there will be a clear sense of spiritual discernment that allows him to see what is right and proper.   VI. Great blessings that we find at the banquet table of righteousness. The first way, is to see if we are hungering and thirsting after righteousness. The second way to see if we are hungering and thirsting after righteousness is to look at Scriptural examples of those who demonstrated it.  Another way to analyze this matter is to look for our own self-righteousness in comparison to the true-righteousness of God We also find that someone who is hungering and thirsting will avail himself to some actions that will promote that righteousness in his life. 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
