What is it that this cry, “I thirst,” teach us about Jesus? 1. The suffering of Jesus Psalm 22 : 14 “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws.” 2. The submission of Jesus, Matthew Verse 28: “Later, knowing that all was completed (and underline this now) so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, ‘I thirst.’” Is doing the will of God for you and me as important as it was for Jesus? 3. The sympathy of Jesus God knows, God cares, and God feels.” That’s why the Bible says that Jesus is a high priest that can be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, for He was in all points tempted as we are. Hebrews 4: 14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. II. Three life-changing facts. All of us have thirst. The issue really isn’t whether we thirst, but how long we’re going to thirst. Jesus thirsted that we might never be thirsty again.
