The word “discipline” is about instruction, teaching, and learning. The one who guides us, who helps us become more disciplined, is a tutor, they help us be trained in particular virtues. The promise of living into the way of Jesus is that in following him, we are following a tutor, we are being shaped into the virtues of the Christian life. This journey is rooted in the virtue of Love as we learn and mature together. Doing what Jesus does unites us, what normally divides us no longer takes center stage, a new shared life is learned.
