Near the end of John’s gospel there is a verse that sums up its purpose: “But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.” Dr. Keck will explore how the English word “believe” originally meant “that which you commit your heart to “rather than intellectual assent to an idea or proposition” We imagine religion is primarily about intellectually agreeing with propositions about reality when in fact it is more about being inspired to love. The heart of the matter is whether one loves Jesus, not believing things about Jesus. And love will demand much of us. Join us for love and spirit-filled worship this weekend!
