Humanity has a long tradition of persecuting prophets while they live and singing their praises after they die. At least, this was Jesus' contention. In the gospels of Matthew and Luke, Jesus becomes incensed at the religious and civic leaders' habitually dismissing and silencing the prophetic voice while embracing and decorating the prophets' tombs. As we listen to the effusive praise of John Lewis from today's leaders, we know Jesus' words still ring true. This Sunday, join Pastor Patrick Messer as we attempt to develop ears to hear God's voice so clearly that we suddenly find ourselves vessels of a prophetic message of love and justice.
