In one of the most powerful images ever captured, 26-year-old lieutenant Charles Levy photographed the 45,000-foot-tall mushroom cloud over Nagasaki on August 9th, 1945. It is hard to imagine that humanity is capable of such destruction. The history of war and the current state of our political landscape is enough to make anyone feel as if there is very little hope for a brighter future.
