Sometimes God delays fulfilling our hope so that we will devote more time to thinking and praying about what we are hoping for. The longer we wait the greater the joy when God fulfills a hoped-for-desire. This seems to be the case for Simeon. His entire life is embodied by what Solomon wrote in Proverbs 13.12, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life,”
