Fasting to Feast on the Promises of God - Matthew 6.16-18

Series: The Sermon on the Mount

July 30, 2017
Michael Malanga

When it comes to the practice of fasting, Jesus is direct about its proper exercise. In the same we are to give, pray, and forgive in secret, so too, are we to fast in secret. Fasting is not to be done before an audience. And, if you’ll pardon the pun, fasting is not meant for public consumption. Fasting is part of a living a life unnoticed by everyone except God our Father in heaven who sees in secret and who promises to reward those who give, pray, forgive, and fast in secret. Fasting encourages our soul to feast on the promise of God: He is our Father – who knows what we need before we ask Him, who sees in secret and promises to reward us for living a life unnoticed.
