Make Disciples: The Authority of Jesus

Matthew 28:19

Therefore . . . make disciples . . .” Matthew 28:19

Disciples are followers of Jesus, and following Jesus is a journey.

1.  The journey of following Jesus has a beginning.

“Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day.” John 1:38-39

“And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. Mark 1:17-18

2.  The journey of following Jesus is a pathway.

“Then Jesus told his disciples, ’If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

3.  The journey of following Jesus leads to life.

“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 16:25

Are you following Jesus?

Are you holding on to anything that keeps you from following Jesus?

What is your next step on the journey of following Jesus?
