Spirit of the Living God

May 31, 2020
Rev. Dennis R. Hartman

Pentecost is the observance of the feast of First Fruits. It was a time that God’s people would give to God the first fruits of the harvest, honoring God as the giver of the harvest. It was also the culmination of Passover where God purchased the first born with His blood. Now the first fruits of the sacrifice was seen in the giving of His Spirit to seal the hearts of those who believe. At the day of Pentecost, God’s Spirit was poured out on all mankind. After the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Spirit was poured out. We know that Jesus told them and us that when the Spirit comes, He will convict the world of sin, and would lead those who believe into all truth (John 14-16). At Pentecost, the significance was that the Spirit is now in the hearts and lives of those who believe, the first fruits of the resurrection.
