Contentment in the Middle of Distress
May 10, 2020
Rev. Dennis R. Hartman
I keep hearing the term, “the new normal”, and it bothers me especially as a believer in Jesus Christ, God Almighty. There have been so many changes in “normal” over my life, why is this any different. But the real “normal” for believers is never different. There are three verses that are often misquoted by pastor, teachers and believers in general that give us normal or contentment in the middle of distress if we look at them in their context and not try to make them stand on their own. These three verses that come to mind this morning have been made to stand by themselves for what people want to hear, but are far from what they mean; Psalm 37:4, Psalm 91:1, Jeremiah 29:11 There is some glimmer of truth in their suppositions, but it would be better if they would examine what the context tells us and see the conditions that surround these statements. The good in all of this is what these verses mean in scripture and how we can hold on to the promises for our lives today! It talks about our normal; contentment in the middle of distress. These verses are promises of what will follow those who follow Him!
