Preparing A Message
March 06, 2022
Pastor Derek Grant
In this teaching time, we look at a basic format of structuring & delivering a message.
Episode Notes
Preparing & Delivering a Message
1/ Study yourself Full 2/ Think yourself Clear
3/ Pray yourself Hot 4/ Let yourself Go
Study yourself full
-Ask the Holy Spirit what He wants to say.
-Read (The Book of Proverbs)
-For an overview watch “thebibleproject.com/explore/proverbs”
-Record any cross-references (Biblehub.com could be a resource)
-Put the content into a structure
Don't write word by word & memorize what to say, but know what
You’re talking about.
-Prepare your message in chunks (Building Blocks).
Example of Hooks
1/ Speak to a need the audience has.
“Would you like to know how to communicate God’s truth in an
effective way?”
2/ Tell a story with which the listeners can relate.
3/ Start A Sermon With A Powerful Statement
“My first sermon didn’t go well, but I absolutely believe Ur first sermon can be great!“
4/ Take a problem and set it up until everyone in the audience feels the problem and longs for the solution.
“At the end of this month, many of you are going to stand up and present truth from the word of God! That is a tremendous responsibility, let’s look at some points on how to effectively share what God wants to say through you!”
5/ Share a vision or a dream.
6/ Raise expectation
“If you will focus your attention, learn & utilize the principals covered in this presentation, you will be set for success in engaging any audience.”
7/ Share a staggering statistic or piece of info
“If you don’t engage your audience in the first 60 seconds, you can loose them and they will miss out the amazing truths God wants to say to them.”
8/ A creative way
-Show & tell
-Top 10 list (eg 10 things you might want to do in your lifetime.)
-Reiterate a point from a previous presenter etc.
Transition In
Make 2 points transitioning to your main point
1/ Insights, revelations & truths etc.
2/ Contextual information
3/ Cross References
State your main point (Your Proverb or Psalm)
Transition Out
Make a couple points driving home your main point
1/ Reiterate the main point in a different way
2/ Explain further revelations which come from the main point
3/ Bring out some applications
Landing
Finish your sermon well by making the main point memorable or inviting the audience to engage & apply the message in some way.
1/ End with a call to action (application)
“So if you remember nothing else, remember to study yourself full, think yourself clear, prayer yourself hot & let yourself go.”
2/ End with an appeal (I urge you guys to prepare well, go over your message, invite friends & family to hear you present.)
3/ End with a Bold Statement or encouragement
“I am full of confidence for you, you are going to speak boldly, clearly and effectively”
4/ Cast vision “Can you imagine what we could glean from each other if we each spent time praying and seeking God’s heart”
5/ Invite & lead the people into an encounter with God
After preparing your sermon, you’ll have to cut unnecessary things & then get to know your material well.
Think Yourself Clear
-Know what you are going to communicate & how you are going to communicate it!
Pray
-Pray for the Lord to speak & flow His Kingdom power through you!
-Pray for your listeners to receive & engage with what God wants to say & do in their lives.
Let Yourself Go!
-Be free to speak boldly as one who speaks for God!
Have fun with it! J
