When we think of Calvary, we usually think of the cross of Christ. We must remember there were three, and each cross has a message for us today.

Episode Notes

1. Cross One: Death in Sin.
Luke 23:39, One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: ‘Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!’
a. Death in sin comes because of unbelief in Christ. “Aren’t you the Christ?”
b. Death in sin comes because of disrespect for God. It is just punishment for sin. “…hurled insults at Him.” “…railed on him.”

2. Cross Two: Death to sin.
Luke 23:41-42, 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” This thief acknowledged personal guilt (“We are getting what we deserve.”) and belief in Jesus Christ (“Jesus remember me.”).

3. Cross Three: Death for sin.
Luke23:46, Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Why did Jesus do it?
a. Because there is no other way.
Luke 22:42, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’
b. Because of God’s love.
Romans 5:8, But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Conclusion: Accept Christ’s death for your sins and die to sin that you may live in Christ.
