REFRAMING OUR STORY
Series: JAMES
October 10, 2018
Rev. Jason Gaskin
There are little help and support for hopeholics. Yes, hopeholics. People who have hope when it seems things are getting worst. We don't like having these people around us. They tend to be positive in the midst of defeat. They have a sense of hope for the future. The narrative we tell is one of decline. Declining people and population. Declining finances. Declining ministries. Declining buildings. (Hey... but you should come to our church?) James gives a sort of rubric at how we should reflect on our life together. Nowhere in this rubric is about ministries, people, buildings, or money. But there are three things... A church should be a caring community, people of prayer, and most importantly that do life together. I am afraid to say... we do all three well... which for a hopeholic... only gives me more hope for our future.
