I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE

Pastor Chuck Bernal March 12, 2017

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.  There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.  If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”  “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.  From now on, you do know him and have seen him! . . . Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!”  (John 14:1-9 – NLT)

We are all infected and impure with sin.  When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6 – NLT)

Your sins are the roadblock between you and your God. (Isaiah 59:2 – CEV)

You see, all have sinned, and all their futile attempts to reach God in His glory fail. (Romans 3:23 – Voice)

“Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked. Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, no one. But with God, everything is possible.” (Matthew 19:25-26 – LB)

“Who can be saved?” they asked. Jesus said, “It’s impossible for people to save themselves, but everything is possible for God.”

 (Matthew 19:25-26 – GWT)

The Exclusivity of Jesus: He is the ______________________________ way!

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (Proverbs 14:12 – HCSB)

Heaven can be entered only through the narrow gate! The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide enough for all the multitudes who choose its easy way. But the Gateway to Life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it. (Matthew 7:13-14 – LB)

The Exclusivity of Jesus: He is the _____________________________ truth!

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32 – NLT)

Jesus said. “I was born for that purpose. And I came to bring truth to the world. All who love the truth are my followers.”  “What is truth?” Pilate exclaimed. (John 18:37-38 – LB)

And we know that the Son of God came so we could recognize and understand the truth of God—what a gift! And we are living in the Truth itself, in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. This Jesus is both True God and Real Life.  (1 John 5:20-21 – Msg)

Nothing could make me happier than getting reports  that my children continue diligently in the way of Truth!  (3 John 4)

The Exclusivity of Jesus: He is the ______________________________ life!

I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of . . . And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, the one and only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent.    (John 10:10, 17:3 – Msg)

Jesus is the only one who can save people.  His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save anyone. We must be saved through him!  (Acts 4:12 – ERV)

The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us. And not only for us, but for everyone who believes in him. For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:21-24 – Msg)

Jesus is the only one who can save people.  His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save anyone. We must be saved through him! (Acts 4:12 – ERV)
