Homily - Where Dreams May Thrive (TGH2)

AROUND THE TIME that my brother Timothy was born, my dad began the construction of my mum’s dream house:

  • FIRST: HE HAD the trenches dug for the foundation;
  • He poured concrete into the frames he had crafted for the foundation which was strengthened  with rebar rods;
  • He did the same for the pillars that would support the exterior and the load-bearing interior walls;
  • Then he waited several weeks for the concrete to set, and the foundation to settle;
  • He waited in order to secure Mum’s dream against the hurricanes that, on occasion, ravaged The Bahamas;
  • MUM’S DREAM HOUSE had a carport to accommodate the four vehicles that would be needed to transport our growing family, and the many little souls they would pickup for church so that they would hear the Name of Jesus and be saved by the Gospel;
  • It had a medium sized kitchen, a dining room large enough to seat their eight children and guests;
  • It also had a large room that served as the front room and family room;
  • All these were open to each other, so that my parents could keep a watchful eye on us;
  • There was a bathroom for guests, and also a large patio that traversed the length of the rear of mum’s dream;
  • THE SECOND HALF of mums dream house consisted of four bedrooms and two additional bathrooms;
  • One bedroom for my parents...
  • Three large to accommodate twelve children...though they only would have eight;
  • The first bathroom was for my parents to guard their intimate life;
  • The second for the children, built in such a way that three children could be using it at the same time without violating each other’s privacy.
  • FINALLY, THERE WAS a door that separated the public and private areas of the house;
  • It had a standard door handle with a lock, and two deadbolt locks: one just above the door knob, the other, about 6 inches from the top of the door to keep sleepwalking children inside; both to keep intruders out!
  • WHEN MY UNCLE CARL — who was a more successful contractor than my dad — bought Mum’s dream house, he placed beautiful wrought iron gates on the sliding doors to strengthen the security!

Dearest Friends;

If we are watchful when we build homes to guard and protect ourselves and our family’s physical wellbeing...and in which their dreams may thrive...

Should we not take similar measures to protect them against Spiritual Harms as well?

Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming!
