Homily - Time To Be Babes Again (VAMC)

It used to be that Catholics rejoiced that they were able to see what the prophets longed to see, but did not see!

  • That all things had been delivered to Christ by God the Father;
  • And that no one knows who the Son is except the Father;
  • Or that no one knows who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

It used to be that Catholics rejoiced...

  • That God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself;
  • That there was no other Name given under heaven by which men must be saved;
  • That no one comes to Father except through Jesus Christ;

It used to be that Catholics rejoiced...

  • That there is Salvation in no other Name;
  • That there is no salvation outside the the Mystical Body of Christ, the Holy Roman Catholic Church;
  • That at the Name of Jesus Christ every knee should bow and every tongue that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father;

It used to be that these truths caused Catholics to rejoice with the holy Apostles and Prophets...

  • But, we were just children then!
  • Now, we are all grown up!

In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,

“I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.” (Luke 10:21)

DEAREST FRIENDS:

  • Look around you!
  • Behold what our so-called adulthood has brought upon us!
  • Perhaps, it is time for us to become babes, again!

In the Name of the Father, And of the Son, And of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Acclamation: Matthew 11:25

25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes;

Gospel: Luke 10:17–24

17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” 18 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. 22 All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

23 Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see what you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”
