Homily - Prayers that Changed the World (Bede)
For 34 years... she prayed!
- Through hurt;
- Sometimes with sense of hopelessness; and
- Perhaps she even visited with despair...on occasion.
But, She prayed!
- Throughout those 34 years: Monica prayed!
She desperately longed for her eldest child to return to Christ in his Church...And, because she knew she could not do it alone...She sought the assistance of others in her effort!
She needed God's help!
- So day and night,
- year upon year
- She pursued Divine assistance
- with all her might!
Monica begged the Lord...
- She poured out her tears asking that God’s powerful grace would flow into Augustine’s life.
She asked the Lord Jesus...
- To soften his heart,
- To prepare a path for his conversion, and
She pleaded that God would...
- Activate the Holy Spirit in his life.
And [Jesus] came and touched the bier... And he said,“Young man, I say to you, arise.”And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.
(Luke 7:14-15)
DEAR FRIENDS:
Monica prayed! And because she prayed...
- The world has never been the same!
O Saint Monica,
Mother of many tears:
Pray for our children!
O Lord Jesus Christ,
Savior of Mankind,
Have mercy on us!
