Make Disciples: The Community of Baptism

Matthew 28:19-20

Baptism is a step of obedience that God commands all believers to take in which the believer is taken under water and brought back up out of the water. Baptism occurs after a person has repented of sins and placed faith in Jesus, and it symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and the believer’s death to sin and resurrection to new life in Christ.

In your journey to follow Christ, you are not alone! Baptism is a beautiful reminder of that truth.

“Maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism.”

Ephesians 4:3-5

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free.”

1 Corinthians 12:12-13

Two Vital Roles for the Church Family in Baptism:

1.    Through baptism, we affirm signs of repentance and faith in the life of a believer.

2.    Through baptism, we commit to help the believer grow in repentance and faith.

If you have placed your faith in Jesus but have not been baptized, what keeps you from celebrating God’s work in your life through Jesus in the presence of your faith family?
