8. The Principle of Obedience

Introduction

Genesis 2:16-17 (NIV)   And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

  • God’s plan to bless you almost always includes a ____________________________.

The Love of God is ____________________.  The blessing of God is very conditional – upon our _______________.

  • Blessing: (Gk: eulogeo), to ___________________.
  • Obedience: (Gk: hupakouo) to ___________________.
  • We are all obedient; the question is, to ______________?

Duet 28:1-15

Romans 6:16 (NIV)   Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NIV)   But Samuel replied: "Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord?  To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.  For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king."

  • Could there be anything better in the world than for the LORD to delight in us?  The LORD _________________ in our obedience.

  • Our obedience produces:

a.      ____________________

b.      ____________________

c.      ____________________

d.      ____________________

  • Disobedience is:

a.      Refusing to __________________

b.      Hearing _____________________

c.      Rejecting the ________________________

d.      Hearing _________________ – when what we hear is clouded by a bad __________________ formed by an unrestrained ___________________.

  • How to access the blessing of God through hupakouo:

1.  Change Attitude By Changing ___________________

Isaiah 26:8 (NIV) Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

  2.  Obey God ______________________

Deut. 15:4-5 (NIV) …(The LORD) will richly bless you, if only you fully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today.

  3.  Fear God Not ____________________

Acts 5:29 (NIV) …We must obey God rather than men!

Matthew 10:28 (NIV)   Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

  4.  Accept God’s _________________________

  • There is a prayer request that God always answers.

Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV) Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me,  and lead me in the way everlasting.
